Cat House Quilts for the Cat Lady!

I recently finished seven more cat house quilts and dropped them off to the Cat Lady at our local animal shelter, the Hawaiian Humane Society. Yes, it's a fact that wintertime can get a bit chilly in certain parts of the Hawaiian islands, so these cat house quilts do help to keep the kitties warm.
On Oahu, the Humane Society is located in the Manoa area. The cats are housed outdoors in the large cat house which provides protection from the winter rain. Each of the cat house quilts measure 24" x 24" and cover the bare metal bottom of the individual cat cages. To keep the quilts "cushy", I use older quilted mattress pads that I purchase inexpensively at the thrift shop as the batting. Here's my tutorial to make a pet comforter for any pet, cat or dog.
These cat house quilts are super simple to make and easy too. Why not check with your local Humane Society or Animal Shelter to see what they might be able to use. :) Even if it's just a donation of old clean towels, it all helps!

Candy Cane - Take it to Heart!

This candy cane - you can take it to heart! Grab a glue gun, felt, needle and thread and perhaps a sequin or two. Glue the candy cane first, then decorate as desired. Hang candy cane on the Christmas tree or tie onto a package. Another easy peasy project! You truly can take it to heart!
P.S. I first saw this idea on Better Budgeting.....check out their website for lots of tips.

Coat of Many Colors Upcycled!

Found this coat of many colors for the bargain price of $2.50 (1/2 off day). It's now been upcycled to cover a well worn footstool. Scissors, a staple gun and 15 minutes of time produced this coat of many colors footstool. I do love my colors! :)

I'm currently using wool scraps from the coat of many colors to make a few bright Christmas ornaments and perhaps fashion a garland of some sort. Still in the prototype stages. :) Will post project pictures later.

Wasabi Turkey Sandwich!

Wasabi makes an ordinary turkey sandwich obsolete! Add a thin layer of wasabi mayonaise to a toasted onion bun. Top with a mixture of shredded turkey meat with a dash of salt, pepper and celery seed. Once you've added wasabi to a turkey sandwich, I promise you'll never go back! YUM!!!!
