Organized, Space-Saving Hair Styling Station

Our small home requires us to live organized and tidy or we definitely suffer the consequences. I'm always on the lookout for ways to save space and still get the job done. So....

At my request, my husband used his circular saw to cut a thrift shop table in half. (Tip: use painters tape across the center of the table along the cutting line to prevent the top from chipping at the edges.)

Next, I attached two hairpin legs to the bottom of the table. Using a level as a guide, I screwed a 16" length of 1x3 pine onto the wall to act as a brace for the table. Set the table against the wall on top of the wood brace and set two screws through the table top into the wood brace from above.

I inserted a stainless steel tumbler into the hole cut out of the table top for storing the hot flat iron when finished. (Makeup brushes also fit nicely in this tumbler if using the table as a vanity.) Bobbi pins and hair clips are stored in the small pewter trophy sitting on top.

Underneath the table, approximately 6" out from the wall, I attached a simple bathroom towel rack directly to the table with screws. "S" hooks on the rack are used to hang hair styling tools, a basket for hair care products, brushes, etc. I also suspended a black silicone heat pad from the towel rack. It protects the table top when the flat iron is being used.

The oval wall mirror was purchased in the clearance aisle of Home Depot. Seating is provided by an upholstered square storage box on castors.

  1. This is a great idea! We also live in a very small space and Piglet has a lot of stuff! I'm also always looking for space saving ideas, I may have to do something like this. Thanks for the tip!

  5. Aren't you clever. I especially like the hole in the table top with a stainless mug. Once we were looking at a home that was out of our price range but I will always remember that on the hers side of the bathroom there was a drawer with outlets in it so she could keep her curling irons and straighteners and hair dryers plugged in at all times. No cords to worry about coiling up. She just had to remember to turn them off. **@#!!
Your station is so efficient and universally needed. You should get a lot of mileage out of this post.

  7. Thanks everyone for your comments! Virginia, a very good friend of mine got me that oversized green mirror at a flea market almost 10 years ago. I think it's from the 70s. It IS fun, you're right! ;) Pam
